However, slavery has been brought underground creating a new form of slavery, one that is even more difficult to fight against. Nowadays, modern slavery is hard to detect in the U.S. and quite frankly, no one really knows the actual scale of human trafficking. In every nation slavery is illegal, nevertheless there are still people who decide to join the secretive circle of slavery. The persistence of these modern forms of slavery worldwide brings in a need of a global network of abolitionists. The abolitionist community certainly didn’t just end with Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, or Harriet Tubman. Once again, a new community of abolitionists has risen to end the new modern forms of slavery. A modern abolitionist is defined as anyone who is committed to fighting slavery in their time.
