Name: Shyima Hall
Occupation: Ex-slave, Author, works to spread awareness of child trafficking. Contribution: Shyima Hall was a former ex slave as a child. Today, she is an assistant manager at a luggage store. Even though she suffered so much as a child, Shiyma shed light on the horrors of modern day slavery. She contributed to modern day antislavery by helping victims rehabilitate and has appeared in numerous shows/documentaries to talk about her experiences as a slave. Shyima Hall wrote a story called ”Hidden Girl”, after this book was written, it brought attention to others all over the media. This book urges people to take action and raises awareness of slavery today. |
Name: Andrew Forrest
Occupation: Former Chairman executive officer of Fortescue metals Contribution: Andrew created an organization to end modern day slavery, he has gained support from Pope Francis and many other religious leaders. The organization brings different religions together to stop slavery. (Including: Catholics, Anglicans, and Muslim faiths.) |
Name: Kevin Bales
Occupation: Co-founder and president of ‘Free the Slaves’ (a campaign against the practice of modern day slavery), Author. Contribution: Kevin Bates wrote largely about modern day slavery. His most known book has been published in ten different languages, given many awards, and was later made into a documentary film. The film exposes slavery in places such as Northwest India, the Ivory Coast, and Washington, D.C. It also shows personal stories of slavery. The stories were combined together into one big film to tell the story of the global economy. Because of his actions, information about slavery is helped spread. |
Name: Biram Dah Abeid
Occupation: Mauritanian politician and advocate for the abolition of slavery Contribution: After his studies, he became a member of an organization called, “SOS Slaves,” where research was done on slavery. A couple of years later in 2008, Biram Dah Abeid founded the Initiative for the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement (IRA-Mauritania). He sees this as a mission to help slaves who are at a disadvantage financially and those who are not able to read and write. He also wants these people to be aware that there is a world full of possibilities waiting for them, and that they are capable of more than just being a slave serving someone. |
Holly Atkinson is the director of the human rights program. She directs doctors to help victims of slavery and human trafficking. She works with medics to find slaves that need help with injuries from their brutal owners.

Lena Alhusseini is an executive director of the “Arabian American Family Support Center.” She worked with many organizations to try and stop modern day slavery such as USAID (United States Agency for International Development) and UNICEF (United Nations Children's Emergency Fund). Lena Alhusseini also addressed child abuse with the Jordan River Foundation’s child protection unit in the MIddle East.

Currently, Emily Amick is apart of the legislative counsel to U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer. She spent many years speaking on behalf of people who were previously enslaved. As well as this, she worked with others that were apart of the legislative counsel to improve the lifestyle of enslaved people and to catch the criminals that brought slavery to innocent people.
